GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Minutes from September by Adele Scholl

What an amazing show we had last September. The room was filled with laughter and amazing scenery, that stretch all over the globe. The photographers that comprise Glacier Camera Club continue to blow my mind with their talents in photography and diversity. Thank you for bringing your photographs to share with the club.

Betty Jo started the night off with some cute creaturees from their yard and some interesting looking birds. She also showed the club some great shots of their travels to ghost towns, Cedar Trees, and a man hearding sheep. My favorite image, although it was hard to choose just one, was the fraternity hall from a ghost town.

D Blank brought a nice selection of her photos to camera club. I always enjoy viewing D's pictures, especially because she is an avid hiker and goes into the deep woods of Montana. Some of the places I am not sure a lot of us will never visit by foot. She showed the club beautiful flower shots from Glacier Park and Jewel Basin. My favorite shot, seen to the right brings life to the flower. You can almost invision the hairs of the flower twisting in the wind.

Doug Dye Also is an avid hiker, with the support of his Llamas he goes all over Montana as well. He brought a nice variety of flower shots, waterfall shots and shots from Iceberg Lake. My favorite shot is one from Iceburg Lake with flowers in the forground. Every time I have been to Iceberg Lake the wall behind the lake is shadowed and does not make for a nice picture. Doug hit it when the light was beautiful. Half lit, half shadowed with clouds hugging the mountain tops this picture to the right is my favorite.

Gail a relative new memeber to camera club, had a tough act to follow. She presented images from Glacier Park, showing the club Lake McDonald, where people have been building caren creatures. Caren's are rocks stacked on top of each and are used to help hikers locate the trail. At Lake McDonald there are a bunch of them that people created and the Caren creatures almost look like people. Betty Jo also showed the club some of these Caren Creatures. My favorite image from Gail was the one of Betty Jo and Jesse sitting on a bench overlooking Two Medicine Lake.

Jerry continued the nights showing with a series of impressive reflection shots from Lake McDonald. He also showed some critter shots of a deer eating, some mountain goats and a marmot looking right at him. My favorite shot is the panoramic that he did from Avalanche Lake.

Jesse showed the club some of his images from the ringing rocks. He and Betty Jo went to a place where the rocks sing when hit. He had sound to accompany his images and it was down right fun. Every one was amazed by the sounds that the rocks were making and amazed at the pics to go with them. Since he brought a completed power point presentation I was unable to grab one of his shots to post to this letter.

Jim brought a nice variety of images to show the club. He showed mountain goats, deer, waterfalls, Ed's Creek, lightning shot over Whitefish Lake. To name just a few. It was hard to choose one image from Jim, there are several that I really liked. He also had a shot of the Caren Creatures on Lake McDonald. My favorite shot is one of a perfectly circular water hole off of McDonald Creek, with a daisy in it.

Larry S showed the club some nice images from Jewel Basin, he had shots of Moose, Deer and some very nice panoramic images from the park. My favorite shot is one of his panoramic images as seen here.

Lyle continues to astond the club with his indepth view into the Whitefish Theater. He also brought some images from the Browning Pow Wow. Lyle does a great job of capturing the essence of people, from all over the world. The images from the Pow Wow are very powerful. My favorite is one of his black and white images of a male Native American dancing.

Nick traveled back to his home land of Alaska and brought back some incredible images from up north. He showed the club some new shots from the arrival at the lodge, to flower shots, to mouse shots, to bear shots. I liked all of Nick's shots, the one that I chose as my favorite is the arrival of the float plane at the lodge, with one of the guides in his waiters going out to greet it.

Rex followed up the show with a look into the eye's of birds. Showing the club a bird's eye view, literally. His images from Rebecca Farms were a unique view of motion that was captured by slowing down the shutter speeds. My favorite shot of Rex's were the sunrise shots that he captured from a barn that is just down the road from my house. As seen to the right this image was created with multiple images, merged together with HDR, the end result is beautiful.

Richard also brought a wide variety of imagrey to camera club. He showed interesting country sides, to Big Horn Sheep, to abandoned buildings. My favorite shot of Richards, as seen to the right is his black and white snowy tree scene. I like the way the trees are covered with snow even on their side. Leaving the viewer to think about the up coming winter.

Steve Mitchell traveled closer to home, Flathead Lake, Bison Range and Nine Pipes. He showed the club some really nices from close to home places. I really enjoyed his shots from nine pipes and the amazing cloud formations with the missions in the back drop. It again was hard to pick one shot, I really like his black and white image of cows grazing in the sun light in front of the mission mountains. I chose the shot that he took of the owl flying toward him.

Jeff and I showed images from Africa and Tupper Lake New York. Both a vary long journey to get to and both beautiful in their own right. My favorite image is of one of the workers paddling a makoro boat, bring in gear to the hunting lodge.
