Big News

Minutes from September

It was really nice of Myrna to bring a remembrance card for Garnet Thompson. Garnet was Al Thompson's wife of 63 years who passed away recently. We have so many new people in our club; I guess that many are unaware of who our leader is. Al Thompson started the Glacier Camera Club more than twenty years ago and is still our leader. He is responsible for everything that we do. We have not varied from his club format of eat, program, show pictures, talk and go home. It must have been a good idea because we had 35 people at our September meeting.

We have gotten along just fine without officers and a treasury. We are extremely lucky to have the worlds greatest MC (Jesse) to run our meetings and to keep the non-books. We have only needed money once when we bought our digital projector and we got enough by passing the hat.

I have been thinking that it might be the right time to get a bigger hat and buy our own computer. Shawn has been wonderful letting us use his but I think we should own our own.

So here is the deal. For those of us who did not get a chance to chip in on the projector, why not help with the computer. If this is an idea you like please send your checks to:

I will let you know when we get too much money.

Many of the places I have been and have loved to be and will never see again are showing up every month at our show and tell. I totally love it. It was a real thrill for me to see Rumble Lake again. I have been there 4 or 5 times and enjoyed each and every minute I spent at the lake and getting there was a lot of fun too. On my fishing trips we went to the lake on a different route than Bob described. There was no trail of any kind and we went straight up the left side of the water- falls. A bit more challenging but in those days the direct route was the way we always went. When we were hunting Goats or Elk we went up the next draw to the North. Bob says the creek on the outlet side was 10 or so feet long, when we were there it must have been earlier in the Spring with higher lake elevations because I remember no creek at all, just the lake and the falls, an incredible sight.

D's pictures of the Pioneer Mts. were fun too. I still get there occasionally during Elk season. Bannack, Belly River and flowers are a hard combination to beat for really fine photos. Thanks D.

I have not spent a lot of time in my life being scared but just watching those Bull Riders causes me some concern. People who ride Bulls for either fun or profit really need help. They just barely make enough money to pay their hospital bills and what kind of an idiot brags about staying on a pile of Bull for 8 seconds. You can always tell who the Bull riders are at the Rodeo. They are the ones wearing the full body casts with zippers. They always pull their Cowboy hats down over their ears in an effort to keep their brain from falling out. In the IQ category you have to give the nod to the Bulls. They get fed well, nobody messes with them and they only work 8 seconds a week. We saw some nice Bull pictures!

I am always amazed at how much Steve and Becca get out in the back- country, but it is nice that they do, it saves the rest of us a lot of trouble. I loved the Whitetail buck in Velvet and the flowers and Falls were great.

Bruce sticks closer to home and embarrasses many of us by finding great shots right in our back yards. In fact he even gets great shots in my front yard. That is embarrassing. I have looked at that old Holt dance hall many times and have never seen a picture; it takes Bruce to show me how to do it.

Wolverine Lake has been showing up at the Pin & Cue every month. For many years I thought that nobody knew where it was and now everybody has been there. It was fun to see the before and after picture of the old cabin. The before could not have been before my first trip but it did look the same. Thanks Dan for the trip.

Rex and Ginna kept the travel log alive with a trip to the UP in Michigan. Not only did they travel but they also did some super photographs. It is hard to believe their claim to amateur status when they do such consistently nice work.

Mike took some outstanding Park pictures. One in particular reminded me of a very similar shot my old friend Marion Lacy took from nearly the same place with Reynolds in the background.

This club has the best show and tell ever.

Camera Club Web Site
We are still asking for more members to contribute to the Club Web site. It is fun and inexpensive. Ask Adele for details.

Buffalo Hills Terrace

We still need more volunteers for the Monthly Buffalo Terrace Photo show. Please help; this is the only contact with the outside for many of these people and they really do appreciate our efforts. It's fun and easy so please contact me for more details.

From D
Dear Ed:
Here is something for the camera club newsletter:

Montana Magazine is having a photo contest. They want portrayals of real Montana people by Nov. 15. The inside scoop is that they would prefer to see photos where the scenes or events are dominant, not the person. For more info:
