GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, November 8th. Myrna Fleming will present the program..

Minutes from October

Each month as I look at all the pretty pictures that flash before my eyes, I wonder why there isn’t at least one bad one. There never is. We for sure have a very talented group of photographers. I am well aware that these so called newsletters have become extremely boring. I have long since run out of adjectives to describe the great work produced by our members. Each month, I’m sure that I’m seeing better work than the month before. It has occurred to me lately that this cannot be true. The best does not change. The best remains the best. The best cannot be exceeded, but it can be duplicated. It is for that reason that my favorite part of our meeting is the show and tell portion. I truly enjoy looking at our collective fine work. Since not everyone brings work to every meeting and since we all work with different subjects, it assures us a great viewing variety at each monthly meeting. Several of my favorite photographers have been conspicuous by there absence so I thought I would mention a couple. Dani D and Myrna are a couple people who jump to my mind as being both unique and versatile. Dani’s travel pictures of people are as good as they get. Myrna has an eye to make normal things look unusual. Her photographs of cars come immediately to mind but her rare talent does not stop there. She too does not do bad work. John M and Joe Beck have more in common than the J & J in their names. They both have a unique way of isolating their main subjects from the rest of the world, thus creating strong clear no frill compositions that I love. Both have a knack for narrowing the scope of their photography to simple interesting compositions of incredibly complex subjects. Bob and Faith Howard have always been near the top when it comes to close up work. Bob’s bugs and Faith’s flowers are in a world of their own.

Nobody can stretch a picture like my friend Gary. His work will for sure keep you in stitches.

Where have you guys been?

Steve & Becca were on the road again. They got some nifty shots of Chief MT. and Two Medicine Lake. Ruby got some pictures of Montana’s crown jewel, Flathead Lake and the biggest houseboat anyone has ever seen. If I remember correctly Dan Taylor did some outstanding leaves and goats. Dee stepped out of her skin and shot some digits at people. Unusual for Dee but great for us, thanks Dee. Doug, my favorite photographer this month worked hard on fall colors. He really came up with some nice work.

Rex and Gina did their usual top drawer type photography, but the shot that really worked for me was the extra nice back lite shot of a Mountain Goat. I would say that they were awfully lucky to get a shot like that, but then they must be the luckiest people on Earth to get all the nice stuff they shoot on a regular basis.

John took us to Washington and Oregon, and Nick shot Sheep, Elk, and Moose in Alaska. Steve Mitchell shot the Bull along with Sheep and Turkeys while Tammie stumbled around in the Fir and Larch and caught a really cute little Buck with her camera.

Nice work everybody.

Other News

December is our gift exchange.

For the new members. December is our gift exchange meeting. We all bring at least one gift which can be anything from the latest Cannon Digital to something out of your junk drawer. We put numbers in a hat and then draw from the hat until all the numbers are gone. Then you get to pick your gift in the order of the number you draw. One first two second etc. DO NOT WRAP THE GIFTS. The gifts are usually camera related items but do not have to be. Your newsletter editor prefers Robert Mondovy reserve Cab. 1994. I’ll have a reminder in the next newsletter.

Hi Ed,

Since I'm new to the club concept and not familiar with your support/non-support issues , I bring up this event to the club because 'good' photography we should all enjoy and 'great' photography we should all make an effort to see and support.

Chuck Haney, a good friend and mentor, along with David Walburn (musician) is presenting an evening of photographic entertainment and music on Friday, Nov 23 @ 7:30pm at The O'Shaughnessy Center (Whitefish). The price of admission will be a box or can of food to be donated to the North Valley Food Bank.

I don't know if this is something of interest to you and the club but I think his photography is stunning! Talk to you soon,
Harley

Hi Ed,

From what I hear the Bighorn's are starting to butt heads down on Rock Creek. I've never been there, but plan to in the next couple weeks.
