Again I am still speechless about the images that were shared at camera club meeting last month. Just outstanding. I am always trying to recruit fellow photographers to come to camera club. We are friends with a lot of very talented people. They never seem very interested in taking the time to dig up some of their work for us. I am sure glad that our group enjoys it as much as I do. Camera club to me is a time to have fun. As Ed mentions below, the quality of the photographs has been even more incredible each meeting. Our shows give members the chance of traveling to places that we want to go with out planning the trip. Nick's Alaskan adventure looked like an trip of a lifetime. Thank you all for sharing, please keep up the great work. We also had a very impressive Photoshop meeting the week after camera club. Again it shows what talented people we have in the group and their willingness to share is nice. I like the comradery that our group creates. | |
| Jeff & I started the show off with images from Whitefish River, our travels to Colorado. Which included an evening at Crater's to the Moon. This place really looked neat from the air. I was amazed at all the lava in the middle of the back woods of Idaho. Idaho is such a beautiful state, I like that people think that it is only about farming potatoes. To me it is about beautiful harsh dessert lands, hot springs and big white water. | ![]() |
| Gary followed up the show with his pictures from Nick's Alaskan trip. As Ed stated below, nice nice job Gary. He showed us images of the crew fishing on the banks of a beautiful Alaskan stream. This same stream is the one that they would go out in small John Boats and observe the bears as they fed. It looked the weather was not the best. But sometimes even light can be very dramatic in photographs. As seem in Gary's blurred bear shot. Sometimes accidentally having slow shutter speeds can create an incredible surprise, as with Gary's shot. Wow very cool to be this close, I could almost feel the spray from the bear as he warned you guys.

| Larry Stolte also did some traveling. He went to Yellowstone in the peak fall change, which also brought on the peak of nature photographers. He photographed some incredible colors with the Tetons and did some images of the photographers themselves. He had some fun pics of all them lined up. He also is a great story teller and told the club about some of the wild life shots he showed. He had followed an elk and a moose and her calf to get some great shots of them. I especially liked his black and white image of Mammoth Falls seen to the right.

| Jane showed the club some of her impressive park shots. Her shots are so colorful and captivating. She took us to Many Glacier, Lake McDonald, St. Mary. I especially enjoyed two shots of hers, the up close squirrel shot and the one shown here of McDonald Creek in springtime. | ![]() |
| Jesse and Betty Jo also showed some great shots from the park. He included his photo that is going to be on a postage stamp. Good job Jesse! This is the image that you see to the right. He also showed us some of Betty Jo's flowers, some up close butterfly shots, blue bird and much more. | ![]() |
| Rex and Ginna also brought some incredible images. They too went on the Alaskan trip and also traveled to Yellowstone. Ginna showed a few shots of how things looked from her perspective. She really captured the beauty of the colors of the river and fall colors behind the bears. She also took this shot of one of the bears shaking, which is my favorite images of her group. Her images from Yellowstone showed a few wildlife shots of elk and coyotes. She also showed some fun texture shots of Yellowstone. Rex started off his show with my favorite shot, seen to the right of the planes that brought them into this magical Alaskan refuge. He also had some many nice shots it was hard to pic just one. He showed us a little more of the lodge, the people and dog that run it. He also showed us more of their group. Showing us that they had a great time despite the cold and rainy weather they seemed to have. He also presented a few pics from Yellowstone, elk, bison and some really nice waterfall shots. | ![]() ![]() |
| Steve Mitchell is also a very talented photographer. Although he did not go on the Alaskan trip, he showed images closer to home. He had some great falls shots, shots of a double rainbow, the ferris wheel from the fair, and some nice river shots. My favorite of his bunch are his beaver shots. | ![]() |
| Tammy Lee is a relatively new member to camera club and closed the program with a boom. She showed the club some impressive mushroom shots. All taken close to her home. She also showed some nice fall time park shots. I especially like her macro shots. My favorite of her group is the leave image shown to the right. | ![]() |
Templehof & Nikon - Friends
Take a look at this. It's a DC-3 commemorating the Berlin Airlift taking off from Templehof just before midnight, one of the last two aircraft to take off before the airport's final closure.
From a technical standpoint, this is pretty amazing. I don't think a flash was used. I think the gleam on the fuselage is from buildings and/or lights on poles near the taxiway. I suspect something like a 300mm or 400mm f/2.8, or possibly a 200mm f/2 was on a Nikon D-3 cranked up to 6400 or higher.
I doubt this could have been done in color back in the days of film, not even with an f/1/4 lens and High Speed Ektachrome exposed at 10,000 and developed in hot C-41 soup.

Send me news
This is not much of a newsletter without an occasional bit of news. Everyone in our club has a speck of knowledge no one else has heard. This is a great chance for you to enlighten our members about important events we will never read in mainstream media. You can also write interesting articles about where you have been and tell us about some of your latest photo experiences.
I certainly would enjoy that and I'm sure others would as well.
This letter goes out to members from other parts of the country who have never attended a meeting and who I'm sure have interesting tales to tell. We would love to hear from all of you, please write.
Our Photographers are the best
One has only to come to the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley the second Thursday of each month to witness some of the finest Photography the World has ever seen. There is little doubt that our club members are without equal in the field of photography. Our October meeting was no exception. Every presenter had great work. I was particularly impressed with the outstanding Bear pictures and the story told from the lens of Gary Harding. Great photos, a fun story from a perfect trip to Alaska.
Buffalo Hills Terrace
If you can help with a program at the Terrace please let me know.

Web site
Sorry to delay the web site, I have not had much time to even do our own web site. Let alone camera club's. I have pictures from Jane, Rex and Larry in holding pattern. Which they probably will all want different pics by the time I get around to putting them up!! I will keep you posted when I have a chance to post the new pics.
