GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, November 12th, 2009.

I am sorry to report that Jeff and I were unable to attend camera club last month, and do not have the minutes from last club's meeting. We will be attending the meeting on Thursday and are looking forward to seeing everyone's beautiful photos.

Where has the time gone? I am always asking myself this question when the larch are starting to change. Summer these days seem to fly right by. This year we were cut a little short on our fall season, since we had temperatures in the single digits early. The leaves on the trees just turned brown and fell down. At least we did have a nice larch fall season.

Last week Jeff and I traveled over to the East side to film NaturEner's new Glacier Wind Farm, located in Ethridge, MT. I was excited to photograph something so different and excited that they located these turbines in Montana. I read through the press releases on their web site, to familiarize myself with the farm. I am sure that people that live on the East side have mixed feelings about it. I did not know what to expect, I have never been to a wind farm. The presence of these large turbines will create a lot of income and jobs to our state. The Glacier Wind Farm has 130 turbines.

Our drive over was beautiful, the larch in full peak along the Middle Fork. One of my favorite sites in the world. After driving through such beauty, we then drove through Browning, always a sad place to pass through. Dogs running wild through the streets, trash blowning around, horses that have to be the toughest in the country, this town reminds me of a third world country at times. I love the Indian culture and am always saddened by passing through this town. Shortly after Browning, the first turbines started to appear on the horizon. When we arrived we checked in with the office, I was expecting a small trailer with one or two employees, too my dismay there were 12-15 trucks parked out front and more then one or two employees inside working out the kinks of the new farm.

Standing under one of these amazing statues, looking up as the blades spin above my head, I can not even put into words. I was surprised at the sounds that they make, I had invisioned loud fan noises and a lot of noise. The noise was a soft, low sounding fan with occasional cracks and hisses from the turbines. Below are a few shots that we took from our visit to Glacier Wind Farm. We also did a short aerial video and panoramic, as seen by clicking on the links below.
