Minutes from January

When everyone participates in camera club I come home buzzing with excitement. My sister, Leesa asks how was camera club, and I relay what I saw and where I traveled. I enjoy seeing the different perspectives that talented folks bring. It always amazes me when two people bring shots from the same event and they are completely different. It happens to Jeff and I all the time. When we traveled to New Zealand, going to the same place we would see things through the camera completely different. Here is my recap from January's meeting.

First off was Dave Hadden, he gave us great insight on trying to create the Winton Weydemeyer Wilderness Area, an area I love to recreate in the North Fork Region. To me this area of Montana is one of my favorites. After 30 miles of bumpy, dusty road, you are truly rewarded with the sights of the North Fork Area. The towering peaks, the clearness of the water of the North Fork River, the friendly people at the Merch rewarding you with delicious cookies and breads for your journey up there. The thought of a mine being established in this area would be devastating. Dave encouraged us to write our Governor Brian Schweiter or Premier Gordon Campbell, regarding the already established mine over the Canadian boarder and the thought of a new one. Their e-mails are premier@gov.bc.ca and governor@mt.gov, this will help protect the North Fork area and ten lakes area. Please remember to keep your messages polite and just tell them why you love to recreate in these areas and what makes them special to you.

D brought some interesting shots from a pinhole camera showing us how everything is focused the same throughout the images. She also showed us some great uses for our flatbed scanners. To scan our personal profiles, or to scan unknown bugs so we can e-mail them for identification. Finishing off with some fun Photoshop work completed for her nephew.

Dan amazed us opening his pictures with the comet that he saw from City Beach that night. He also showed some interesting winter waterfall shots, swans flying just over the water, and ending with some twilight shots from City Beach and the Big Mountain.

John started his show off with a large bison eating. He followed up his show with some nice shots from the dessert, cloud formations. His view of trees growing through an old truck, is very creative, I am always looking for new ideas of planters for my yard. Now I just need to find an old truck with that much character.

Larry's photos started off with a cute little bird sitting in red berries. Followed up with images of his wife feeding the sea gulls. The shot of his wife almost being attacked by the birds was great. Not because his wife was getting attacked by the birds, but I think everyone can relate to having birds get a little to close for our comfort zone.

Larry #2 took us to the South, to see some HooDoos and cactus. Things we do not get to see everyday in Montana. I enjoyed his flower and bug shots, also his shots from Lake Powell were most impressive. The shot of his daughter taking a bath of her own outside in a small bowl was one of my favorites.

Nick's pictures started off with a true bird bath. Crisp water stopped, flowing over a small bird definitely gained my attention. He then showed us some great monkey shots. The intense picture that was captured in the black monkey's eyes had me captivated. We also saw a tree frog looking right at us.

I showed the beginning of our photos from our trip to New Zealand. Starting off on the North Island, traveling to Cathedral Cove we experienced a bike race. Our first day of driving on the wrong side of the road. We also had to deal with hundreds of bikers in the mix. So I decided to abort on my navigating and make the best of it by capturing them with the camera. We are going to show our entire New Zealand slide show at the Great Northern Brewery in town in March. We are still working on a date. From our show it was fun to see a shot of an old barn in Whitefish and then the lights of Las Vegas. Quite shocking to say the least.

Steven and Becca had some fun shots of their grand kids. The action sledding shots showed us some great emotions up close. I always enjoy seeing shots of some of their bunnies, bunnies and grand kids together could not be cuter. They finished off their show with some funny hot tub shots as well.

Joe also traveled to New Zealand last month. He showed us some interesting shots of the fences that they have there. Also taking us to Pancake rocks. This was one of my favorite locations in New Zealand. His images portrayed the fact that things grow everywhere in a rain forest. The artistic view of the posts with mosses on them were great. Two of my favorite shots were Joe's view of the Boulders from Arthur's Pass and his foggy coastline shots. Really portraits things we experienced too from a completely different perspective.

Rosella brought us some of her captivating black and white artwork. Her fine art images of the grass reeds on a frozen lake kept us guessing how she took these images and memorized at the outcome.

Camera Club Web Site

We are still asking for more members to contribute to the Club Web site. It is fun and inexpensive. We have 13 members who have contributed and it is looking good. Lyle Olson is the new kid and he has some excellent and entertaining photography posted. Look at the site, you will love it.

Ask Adele for details. adele@digisys.net

Buffalo Hills Terrace

We still need more volunteers for the Monthly Buffalo Terrace Photo show. Please help; this is the only contact with the outside for many of these people and they really do appreciate our efforts. It's fun and easy so please contact me for more details.
