Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, April 12th.
Minutes from March
Joel Templeton did an excellent program on ways to print B&W prints on an ink jet printer. We thank Joel for helping make our club better. If any of you have an idea for a program please let me know. We can do one every three months or so.
Some of the other things we did that I can remember. Nick got out of Montana and found some birds willing to sit still for him, and as only Nick can do he made some really fine photos. Steve and Becca also got out of town. What's new about that? They brought home a bit of Kentucky and Wyoming. Steve shot some really big bunnies.
Jesse and Bruce brought the Central School Museum to our meeting. Joe Beck did what Joe beck does, he travels constantly looking for and finding excellent pictures for us to admire.
Larry Stolte went to freezeout Lake and other Eastern Montana destinations where he also did some nice photos.
Bob Howard another of our really good photographers also found some birds. We need to see more of Bob and Faiths photos. These are two people who always do good work.
Clearly the best of the bunch was Frank Vestey's big slides. It had been so long since I've seen a 6X7 cm slide on the screen that I had forgotten how really nice they are. As far as projected work goes nothing comes close to big slides.
Big News
Not much in the way of real news so I'll spend a paragraph or two on reflections.
All the changes that have come about with photography in recent years nothing has really changed. Our goal, no matter the process, is to get some great work on paper. Whether I look at the work of our members or the work of regular photographers, I don't see it in terms of digital or film but rather in terms of wonderful pictures. In fact if I try to make a distinction between the two I find it to be impossible.
My guess is that there are few people in the world that can look at a print and say for sure that it was done using a digital camera or shot on film. There is no doubt that soon enough nearly every picture we see will be done using a digital device. Never the less photographs are still about photographers. It is not our equipment that has the magic in it, but rather the magic is in the minds of those who stand behind the camera. For example, those of us who shoot landscapes still need to be there. We still have to stand in front of the mountains or lakes or rivers with our cameras and tripods. We still have to make our own compositions. We still have to work with the light. We can't make fine landscape pictures from our living rooms. Our tools have changed but our craft and our goals remains the same. We do great pictures.
Get your pictures Framed
I just got a call from Malcolm Thompson who is the "M" in RBM Lumber. RBM is in Columbia Falls and owned and run by a local family. They are now producing picture frames! It sounds like many are one of a kind. You can see them by stopping in their office in Columbia Heights.

Camera Club Web Site
Have you looked at the Camera Club web site lately. Your reading assignment this month is Rex & Gina's page. They have some totally awsome stuff posted. They claim to be beginner photographers but they post high quality pro type stuff. Have a look at their macro page.
We have room for several more members so see Adele soon.
Buffalo Hills Terrace
We still need more volunteers for the Monthly Buffalo Terrace Photo show. Please help; this is the only contact with the outside for many of these people and they really do appreciate our efforts. It's fun and easy so please contact Ed Gilliland for more details.

OTHER NEWS
The 344 Gallery
Something new at the Gallery- We will be participating with other Galleries in Kalispell on a once a month time table to try and get more people in the door. It will be a special Gallery night similar to the one in Whitefish. We hope to get our photographers more exposure.
Nick is next.
We will hang Nick's show the 1st of June and his artist reception will follow in short order. We would love to have more Camera Club people attend the opening receptions. Please watch for the date and plan to bring yourself and some friends. Where else can you get free wine and cookies? Many people use this as a chance to go to a show and have dinner out.
The Gallery schedule:
Alex Volborth April/May
Nick Fuci June/July/August
Shawn Coggins September/October/November
John Kyle December/January/February
