GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, April 8thth, 2010.

Minutes from January by Adele Scholl.

Jeff and I started last month's camera club showing images of sunrise over Columbia Mountain, South Fork. We also did a little traveling and went to Medora, Rochester, Minnesota, and our favorite place Lake McDonald. One of my favorite shots was the shot of the Big Mountain fireworks, taken from the top of chair two looking down at the valley.

Betty Jo followed up the show with some nice shots from the park. I still find it hard to believe that this is Betty Jo's first camera, she takes a lot of very nice photos! Looks like her and Jesse were out in the park on a very dramatic day. With fog and clear skies. My favorite shot of hers shows that, the fog lifting from Lake McDonald.

Bruce showed the club some nice shots of reflections on the Flathead River, his friendly Osprey, a chopper grabbing water from Flathead Lake, last summer. My favorite shot of his was his icy shot of a fence. The hore ice on a chain link fence makes a really nice pattern.

D brought in a lot of really nice shots, as well. She had some fun images of her animal friends that live in her backyard, Magpies, Stellar Jay, deer and squirrels, to name a few. She also had some really nice shots from sunrise on the Big Mountain. The past few months the Big Mounain has put a uphill traffic regulations in place, limiting the times that we can climb the Big Mountain. Because a small few people that could not do it responsibly, we all have to pay. I think if D showed some of her shots that she showed camera club, they might change their mind. They were outstanding, the images really show the quiet peaceful moments of hiking to the top to see sunrise or sunset.

Jesse, our gracious camera club MC, also brought some great shots from Lake McDonald. The lake had a mirror reflection, with icy sections on the shoreline. He showed his view from that day. My favorite shots of his was the one that he captured of daylight, sun rainbow. I have never seen this effect in person. Really nice.

Lyle presented the club with some of his amazing shots from India. He captures the pure esssence of the people there. I felt like I could smell, the smells from the area as we were watching his show. Allahbad and Delhi, were the cities that he showed to the club. He started off the show with images from the Allah Mela gathering. This was the largest gathering I had seen. Incredible, when you start thinking of how they had to handle simple things, like trash, bathrooms, sleeping and eating. It was hard to pick just one image from his group. My favorite shots were one that shows the mass of people, crossing the bridges over the Ganges, and a shot of the town children. Thanks Lyle, India has always been a place I would like to travel to, I really enjoy your images.

Steven Mitchell closed out the show with a great self portrait. He also showed shots of ice fishing, a golden eagle, snow on the trees and some shots of Flathead Lake. My favorite shot of his, is of his pup. Shows the smile on his face, as he is running and jumping.

Hi, Ed,

I hope you're doing well.

Once again it's getting to be about that time for my annual trek down to Death Valley. Over the next few weeks I'll be getting my camper readied for this year's camping season.

I wanted to follow up on that wildflower photo that my friend Frank took back in 2005. Here's a current blog link that talks about the location and the Carrizo Plain in general. Next year, if you get tired of the bitter cold where you are, maybe you should think about coming out West and catching the bloom.

Best,
Byron Won
