GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, May 10th. Adele Scholl will do a program on New Zealand.

Minutes from April

Our show and tell was superb without a doubt. I have never seen such a bunch of high quality photographs from so many contributors in one place at one time in my life. It is nice for me to be in the same room with talent like we have in our club.

Freezeout Lake was the big attraction for most of our club during March. There are thousands of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans stopping by there to refuel for the rest of their flight to the Arctic for summer nesting. They attract thousands of photographers who refuel their portfolios for the long trip to the bank. None of them are better than the folks from our club.

D Blank who is always a tough act to follow had some great shots of purple flowers and white birds. She is hard at work mastering her new digital camera and it looks like a short learning curve, she has already gotten prize-winning photos. Bruce Ruby another gem among our members traveled to Washington State where was a few days early for the Tulips to be in full bloom, but his barn pictures made up for the lack of cooperation from the flowers.

Joe Beck got to Sedro Wooly a week later and had far better cooperation from the flower gods. Joe is so good, not only behind a camera, but also behind a computer that one could wonder if he photo-shopped the flowers. Just kidding Joe! You wouldn't do that would you?

Steve and Becca Rapelje had a swinging good time at Kootenai Falls where they spent some time waiting for Meryl Streep. Spring is in the air and the flowers are starting to bloom and Becca did some really nice flower pictures.

We all know that D is the worlds greatest flower photographer, and now we all know that she has many pretenders to her throne. Everybody did some flowers. Larry showed us some of his versatility with a variety of really fine photos. A couple of his Sea Gull pictures were so good it looked like you could feed them. This was a body of work that any other month would have won my favorite photographer of the month award, until Lyle Olson showed up with the most awesome people pictures the world has ever seen.

His street portraits were perfect in every way. Powerful, moving, excellent composition, great light, they had everything. I was truly impressed with his photography from a technical point of view but how can you miss with such great subjects. These were people the way you see them and they were looking back as though they could see us, Great work, thanks for the treat.

Our very favorite Master of Ceremonies, Jesse went pro, and did a talkie for his contribution to a fun evening. Jesse is one of our best innovators. Without Jesse around to keep our club interesting soon nobody would come. Be sure to give him a big slap on the back when you thank him for his dedicated service to us all.

I said before that everyone went to Freezeout. Nick was at freezeout with the rest of the crowd but his pictures were definitely from a different point of view. There was a whole different attitude that sets Nick apart from the others. Hard for me to say what it is but not hard for me to tell you how much I enjoy our club and those who bring such great work every month.

Thanks to everyone who makes this club special.

Camera Club Web Site

After seeing such great work at the April meeting I hope that it makes it's way to the GCC web page. Stuff like we have in our club is to good not to share. Please give your CD's to Adele at the meetings or email them to her for inclusion to the web site.

We have room for several more members so see Adele soon.

Buffalo Hills Terrace

We still need more volunteers for the Monthly Buffalo Terrace Photo show. Please help; this is the only contact with the outside for many of these people and they really do appreciate our efforts. It's fun and easy so please contact Ed Gilliland for more details.

OTHER NEWS To the members of the Glacier Camera Club who have volunteered their time by giving slide shows to the residents of Buffalo Hill Terrace I would like to send out a big thank you. The residents and I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of the presentations. Since Ed did our first presentation back in February of 2006 this program has become a real success and a regular part of the recreation program we offer to our residents, in large part due to Ed's dedication to scheduling presenters for us. The residents greatly look forward to each month's presentation. The skill and talent your members display is inspiring to my residents every month and I greatly appreciate you sharing it with them. To show our appreciation we are inviting all of those who have done a presentation, along with a guest, to our annual volunteer dinner here at Buffalo Hill Terrace. This event will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 at Buffalo Hill Terrace. Please RSVP by Monday, May 7 by calling 406-212-0640 if you are interested in attending. Again- thanks for the great service you have provided.
