GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, May 13th, 2010.

Minutes from January by Adele Scholl.
Last meeting Jeff and I showed images from a cross country ski journey into Kintla Lake. It was something we had mapped out, talked about, heard about and taken aerial pics to scout the best route in. From Wurtz Cabin it is only a 3-4 mile ski to the lake, instead of 14 miles from Polebridge one way. We gathered a group of people crazy enough to ford the river in the winter. As it turned out the ford was the easy part. Getting up the other bank of the river and to the road was the biggest challenge. Overall it much easier then expected and a lot of fun. Would definitely do it again, maybe cross the river a little further North and cut down on the trail blazing to the road. We also visited the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. After spending 2 months on the river channel at the bottom, we had never seen the top. It was a lot of fun, but I longed for the river from the top. The peace, tranquility, rhythum of it's water, being on river time, were all traded in for a chance to look within. With about the population of Whitefish, we shared this view, from the South Rim. Next time our journey will be within, once again!
Bruce brought in some shots of a foggy Somers Bay, the remains of a boat from the crossing at Kehoe's Agate Shop, a shot of his osprey friends and my favorite shot of the moon. Bruce is a master of Astronomy and taking great moon and night time shots. He said this image is not from his telescope, but just a zoomed in lense. It sure is impressive, and made me believe it was from his telescope.
Gary Harding went to visit Rex and Ginna Short in Arizone. Hooray, he brought in some really nice photographs that we do not see every day at camera club. I really enjoy the time I am able to spend in the desert, although I could never live there. It always amazes me the life that can exist on what seems like barren lands. Gary brought in blooming catcus', wild flower scenes, as well as a few bird shots. I enjoyed all of Gary's shots, my favorite however is a landscape scene with wild flowers in peak bloom. The amounts of rain that this area has received this year, proved to provide a great stage for photos.
Kevin presented the club with some fun shots from the bar stool shots in Martin City, shots of local music scene, ski joring, geese in Woodland Park and a few of his side kick. I really enjoyed his band shots. I always miss live music living here, so it is nice to see some pics of local bands. My favorite shot of his is of Rock Mtn band. He must have spun the zoom dial while taking a long exposure. Makes for a very interesting photo. Impressive that band members are still fully visibly and not ghosted.
Larry brough in some shots from all seasons and locations. Showing the club some images that he had taken back East when he lived there, a marina, and a nice barn scene. He also showed the club some great shots of one of the snow falls we have had in spring time. He also showed the club a shot from Jewel Basin after he and his side kick attemped to snow shoe to the notch of Mount Aneias. Looked like quite the day. It was hard to pick my favorite, once again, but I enjoyed seeing his shot of the Dragon's tail, from the top of Logan's pass from above. I know I have a bias opinion for aerial and elevated work!
Myrna closed out the club with some impressive shots from the Bison Range. I still can not believe I have never been there. The outstand shots that the club presents makes me feel like I have been there. I was just reading in the paper how the Bison Range canceled this year's annual horse ride into the park. Sounded like it was a shame that it was canceled but the people that have experienced it, have something to cheris their lifetime. Myrna found a very large elder Bison, turtles, elk and a wood duck that frequents her neighborhood. My favorite image of hers was this one of the elder Bison, with mud all over his face. The image captures pure satisfaction on his face. After basking in the mud, he was taking a rest from his daily routines.
