GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. At 6:30PM Thursday, May 11th, 2006. We have another special treat for our May meeting. Bob Bickenstaff will show photos from his recent trip to Chile. The easiest and the cheapest way to travel is to join the Glacier Camera Club.

Minutes from April

Nick Fucci did one of our best ever programs. I have never seen so many great photographs compiled from one three-week trip. After many years of wondering what the difference was between an amateur and a professional photographer, Nick defined it for me. A pro like Nick can go on assignment for three weeks and get hundreds of great shots. Amateurs go on the same trip and get 20. I sometimes get two or three. Shawn noticed that the total quality of the photography in our club is raising exponentionally. The really good ones like Nick, Gene, Myrna, and George have raised the bar and are bringing the rest of us along for the ride.

GREAT PHOTO'S

Once again our members provided some really nice pictures for our entertainment. Gary, who never ceases to amaze me, brought some extra cool pictures of the Freezeout Geese. If you can imagine a well-composed picture of a flock of flying geese then you know what they were, nearly perfect pictures of geese. We hope that he will bring the pictures he took at the Bison range last week. -Just some more great work from one of our best all around photographers-

NEWSLETTER

We need help. If you have news or a story or something to sell or a Canon 5D to give away, let me know and we can get it in the newsletter.

SHOW AND TELL

As soon as you get to the meeting, find Shawn, give him your storage device so that he can get it on his computer. This saves us a lot of meeting time. We far prefer that you plan to use Shawn's computer rather than your own.

If you have slides that you want to show, it would be very helpful to let me know ahead of the meeting time. I can schedule slides at times when we have 3 or 4 people who want them. This method might work better than being the only person with slides.

BIG NEWS, SPRING IS HERE, JIM AND CARLETTA PETERSON ARE BACK. We will look forward to Jim's annual slide show in June.

Camera Club Web Site

Please consider putting some of your pictures on the Camera Club web site. It is no harder than bringing a CD to show and Tell. After you show your CD to the club, give it to Adele for inclusion on the web. If you have questions talk to me at the meeting.

Buffalo Hills Terrace

Please help me with the Buffalo Hills Terrace show. I need a program for June. It is easy to do and the old folks love it. Jim Peterson might do June but he isn't sure. I would like to schedule June with someone flexible enough to skip till July if Jim can do June. You can be quite inventive, no need to show slides if you can tell stories for an hour.

The 344 Gallery

I want to thank Mike Spence for his participation in our gallery. He is one of our best photographers and added a lot to the quality of work in our gallery. Please note a schedule change, FVCC will take one month only so everyone else will move up.

If you want a show and need some time to put it together, it might be wise to schedule now. As you can see we are out to February of 2007.

If you have questions about how to frame your prints, don't. I think they look good on foam core board. They are easier to hang and easier to price.

The Gallery schedule: FVCC May
William Brooks June/July
Doug Dye August/September
Shawn Coggins October/November
Dan Taylor December/January

NEWS FROM D

Do you have old electronic stuff in your basement or closet? It contains hazardous metals, so don't put it in the dump - recycle it! You can bring things like computers, TV's, and copy machines to the back parking lot of The Wave in Whitefish on Saturday, May 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a small charge for hauling off and properly disposing of this equipment. Examples of cost are: TV-$15, Laptop Computer-$8.50, Large Photocopier-$75, Small Computer Monitor-$8.50. Staff from Cyberport will be on hand to completely erase hard drives, if they once contained sensitive information. If you have any questions, please call the Cyberport office at 863-3221.

Hi Folks,

This is Michael Jaworsky, Community Relations Director for Cyberport and I want to tell you about an important event coming up. State Senator Dan Weinberg and Cyberport are co-sponsoring an electronics recycling program. These kinds of electronics include computers, copy machines, TVs and more.

This will be happening on Friday, May 26th and Saturday, May 27th (businesses and schools will bring in their equipment on the 26th and individuals on the 27th). The times are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days. It all takes place in the back parking lot of The Wave in Whitefish.

The purpose of this program is to give you a safe and efficient way to dispose of old electronics without depositing them in the landfill. Computers, monitors, and other equipment contain hazardous metals and this will be an approved and safe way for disposal.

There will be a small cost to you when you bring your equipment in. This is not a money-maker for either us or Senator Weinberg. The company, from Spokane, charges for hauling off and properly disposing of this equipment. Examples of cost are: TV-$15, Laptop Computer- $8.50, Large Photocopier-$75, Small Computer Monitor-$8.50.

Staff from Cyberport will be on hand to completely erase hard drives, if they once contained sensitive information.

If you have any questions, please call the Cyberport office at 863-3221.

Sincerely,
Michael

PROGRAMS If you want to do a program or know of one, please let me know. Jim Peterson will probably do a show for us June.
