Next Meeting
Glacier Camera Club 6/1/05
Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30 PM Thursday June 9, 2005. Jim Peterson will give his annual program. He always has something humorous and entertaining for us so don't miss this one. Be there.
Who's first?
Jim will show slides so we will follow with slides for our show and tell. Have your carousels ready to go. Digital will follow slides. We will try to have both projectors set up and ready to show.
Another photo show
"About town," a black & white photography exhibit will be on display from June 1st until June 15th in the Lobby of the K M Building in Kalispell MT.
The photo series tracks customers of a local coffee cart to their various workplaces and records their activities as testimony to the diversity of day-to-day community life.
The photographs were taken by Susan How as an independent study project through Flathead Valley Community College under the instruction of Peter Hertlein.
George McFarland is her photography mentor.
What happened at our last meeting?
Rosella brought some extra cool B&W slides shot on Scala film. They were real nifty and a pleasant change. Trevon showed slides of his recent trip to Australia. As can be expected from one of the best photographers in the State they were as entertaining as they were well done.
Bruce and Jesse spent some time at the Bison range and shared there adventure with us. Some great photos of a fun place to spend an afternoon.
Needs Help
What you say. Obviously the newsletter. I have been getting lazier and lazier. I would like to make it more interesting but I usually have only about twenty minutes to get it done. This one is no different. I'm leaving in the morning for about seven days in Oregon so I'm trying to remember all the stuff I've had three weeks to forget. When you consider that it is pretty hard for me to remember things that I've had less than one day to forget writing an interesting letter is harder than thinking up excuses for being boring.
It would be great if some of you would send some news. I'll be back from Oregon ten minutes before Camera Club.
A note from Mike Spence

A word from Bruce and Ed
Bruce stopped by today to tell me a tail of woo about blowing on his new digital camera to get some dust off the chip. Don't do it. It was a lesson that I thought everyone already knew. Guess not. No one on earth can blow on anything hard enough to move dust without spraying whatever you are blowing on with spit. That includes lens. I hate dust on my lens, but the things I hate worse are oily fingerprints or moisture from my mouth. If you don't have a squeeze bulb or a lens brush shoot the dust. It is a different story with digital. Dust on the chip is dust on your picture. Digital guys really do need an air bulb or a good portable vacuum. It is a bit difficult for me to clean lenses so I make every effort to keep them clean by handling them very carefully. I can get by with thoroughly cleaning my lenses once or twice a year. If however you are shooting around an Ocean you will need to clean them everyday you use them. It was a big surprise for me to find my lens completely coated with salt after only one day shooting. I was unaware of moisture in the air the last time I shot the Oregon Coast, but when I looked at my cameras after a day or two it was obvious that the air was different than it is in Montana.
Back to Bruce for a second or two. It took Bruce two weeks and a bunch of money to get his camera working correctly after blowing on it. Several Months ago D brought an air bulb to camera club that looked like a lawn dart. It took me only a day or two to get my own. It works so well that I bought 3 more at Sam's going out of business sale. It has become the most useful item in my gear box. Everyone who has a camera should have one. Ask D or Bruce.
Well it's time to push the button, see you all in a week.
