GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, June 10th, 2010. I would like to personally thank Jesse and Betty Jo, for all the years they have donated to running and MCing our camera club. We are always fully entertained and love hearing their stories.

July will bring us to Glacier Camera Club's display at the O'Shaughnessy Center. Please contact Ed to let him know what you plan to hang and if you would like to speak about your work. The guidelines are listed at the bottom of this newsletter. You may submit photofessionally framed prints, with or without glass. They should be taken to the O'Shaughnessy Center at 9 am on the 14th and your bios e-mailed to Linda asap. The theme is Glacier National Park and Whitefish.

Minutes from January by Adele Scholl.
Becca started off last month's Glacier Camera Club, traveling down south to Zion, Vegas, Virgin, Utah and Hoover Dam. She presented some outstanding shots. Fun way to start off the show with some nice sunny desert shots. Really nice to see her and really nice to see her pictures. I have never been to Zion park and always wanted to go. Her shots enticed me even more. Looks like they had a fresh snow fall on the canyon walls, making for dramatic images. She hiked down to a section called the Narrows, Kolob Canyon, in Zion. My favorite shots of hers were from the Narrows and from Zion. She also tried to play a a memorial video that she created, because our computer needs some updating we were not able to view the video. You can view it here http://www.deerlakevideo.com/some-gave-all/. Arizona

Betty Jo showed the club some pictures that she took of the fresh snow that we received. I really enjoyed her first shot that she showed looking into the river. The clouds reflecting off the water. She also showed the club some great shots of buffalo, deer and a bear, from the bison range and a few from Glacier National Park.
Bob Howard showed the club that spring has actually come, with his images of flowers. He and Faith have seen some blooming trilliums, skunk cabbage. I enjoyed his shot of the skunk cabbage growing in water, as seen here. He also told the club that the huckleberries were not blooming yet. I bet by next meeting he has seen some blooms.
D showed images from her excursion with the Swan Rangers. Views looking at Mountain Aneias, Flathead Lake, all truely amazing. It almost looked warmer with all that snow then it is now with out it. She also showed the club some pictures of an adventure she took with Dave, for her birthday. They traveled via skis, near Mariah's pass in Glacier National Park. I really enjoyed her shots from this trip. I love skiing the Autumn Creek trail, which they were on some of the time. I did not get to go this year. Her night time star trail shots, over the majestic peaks from the park were incredible. I picked one from each of her adventures to post.
Doug Dye presented some really nice flower shots. With all this rain I am sure it is going to be a great wild flower season. He found these flowers near Blanchard Lake. He showed the club that he too can take an exceptional flower photo. Again it was hard to pick my favorite, I love the shooting stars and the lady slipper orchids. It blows my mind that such a delicate flower grows here.

Jesse and Betty Jo attended the park's centential celebration. I had wanted to attend this, but was not able to. I was glad he showed the club some images from the event. Dignitaries and their representatives, all gave their speaches. Jesse told the club that a lot of Dignitaries just sent their representatives to talk for them. Ah too busy to celebrate the park's 100 anniversary, hmm. Jeff and I have been watching Ken Burns National Park's series. I highly recommend it, if you have not seen it. Granted a lot of the video scenes are shown with the Ken Burns effect, but the history and look into other parks is outstanding. Definitely America's Best Idea today! http://www.nps.gov/americasbestidea/

Jesse also showed the club some shots from the Bison Range, bears, deer, turtle and some bison too. My favorite shot of his is of a bison rolling in the dirt.
Kevin showed the club some of his images from local bands, hungry horse res and avalanche gorge. My favorite shot was of the gorge. Such an amazing place in the park. Has been several years since I have hiked up the gorge. I really like his shot of it showing the amazing color of the water in these parts.
Lyle finished off the show with his look into Whitefish Theater Co. He photographs the dress rehearsal's and really does capture great expressions and feelings in his photographs. My favorite shot of his was his opening shot. How do the people in the backdrop keep a straight face. I guess that is why they are actors.
