GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, July 10th.

Minutes from May By Adele Scholl

Wow wow wow is what first comes to mind about last camera club's meeting. I am still fired up about all the beautiful images that we viewed. We also learned that it does not take an expensive camera to take beautiful pictures. I guess it just takes a snowy day and bad weather in June.

With summer brings the return of Jim and Carletta, from Louisiana, always accompanied with beautiful pictures and beautiful smiles. This month they did a show on Norwegians. Starting with their cute cabin in Coram we traveled with them to Louisiana, Norway and Libby. We also viewed some pictures of Jim's father as a packer. Finishing off his show with Norwegian fest parade in Libby, Montana. Thanks Jim and Carletta it is nice to see you back at camera club.

Greg Thigpen continued the evening with incredible photographs. He showed panoramic photographs, and some of the best wildlife shots I have seen. Really reaching into the spirit of the animals. We saw bear cubs in Yellowstone, grizzly bears feasting on an elk caracas, osprey on Flathead Lake, as well as amazing up close and personal shots of coyotes. I can not even to begin to state my favorite photograph, they were all captivating, one after the other. Welcome to camera club Greg, please come back and show us more of your beautiful images.

I am sure it was hard to follow Greg images, but Becca's shots from Glacier Park are always impressive. She and Steven travel to parts of the state and park, we do not have time to. She showed us nice waterfall shots, of Synder Creek and Little Bitterroot Falls.

Bruce Ruby showed the club some views from history. Finding an old abandoned ship on the North end of Flathead Lake. Photographing some nice pictures from the north shore beaches, he made the club ask where are you? Which at camera club it is always hard to stump the club on location. We have a lot of well traveled photographers in our group.

Dan welcomed the assignment of taking photographs of cherry orchards on Flathead Lake. Although the cherry blossoms were rained out this season, he had some nice images from the orchards on the East side of Flathead to show the club. He also took us to Smith Lake showing us the impressive Sandhill cranes. We also viewed some waterfalls near Hungry Horse, St. Mary & Virginia Falls in the park. He also reminded us that summer brings forest fires. He showed some chopper and fire shots.

I think everyone is excited when Dee brings images to camera club. She loves to hike and travel to places, most of us at camera club do not have the opportunity to see in person. She reminded us of winter showing some deep snow shots from the Big Mountain and frosted trees. She also traveled to Freeze Out Lake and had some beautiful shots of the bird migrations. Finishing off her show with tulips in the snow. Ah yes it is summer and it did snow, that is part of why I live in Montana. I love the unpredictable weather, as long as it is not rain in the winter after a big powder day. Nice shots Dee.

Doug traveled to Monterrey and the Pacific Grove at the opportune time for photograph taking. Everything was blooming! Flowers everywhere, I always love flower shots. My friend David Marx is always bitter about up close flower shots, he claims seen one flower up close you seen them all. I think he would disagree if he had seen Doug's shots. I am always trying to make him change his mind on flower shots. He just has not viewed Doug and Dee's flower shots. How could he not be impressed with those photos?

Having never been to Alaska and always wanting to go, I was excited to see Jerry's photos from there. He captivated the club with shots of Fiords, rocks and even a few aerial pics of the glaciers. Showing amazing pics of eagle's and bears, oh my. He finished up his show with the grand finale of Wale pictures. I can only imagine how exciting it must have been to be able to see these giants in person. While Jeff and I were in New Zealand we had dolphins swim with our boat and swim under the boat. It was a time I will always remember. You could hear them coming to the surface to grab a breath of air, the exhale of their breath sent chills down my spine. Thanks for showing us a little bit of AK.

Steven stuck a little closer to home. He showed us fun images from Flathead, and Snyder creek. Focusing on different angles from Becca. I always enjoy seeing their unique angles to the same locations. They both have a great eye.

James proved that it does not take expense glass to capture nice pictures. He showed us his favorite shots that he had taken from his cell phone. The best part is that he does not have a fancy IPhone, or Que, he took his pics with an LG phone. I kept saying I have an LG phone and I can not take pics this neat. He showed us statues, lego land, hallways, and some art galleries. He also had some self portraits and pictures of his son. Well done James, this motivates me to keep taking pics from my cell phone.

Bruce Harris finished off this month's show with a bang. He brought images from Death Valley. Showing us sand dunes, Ballarat Ghost Town, Scotti's castle and much more. How could anyone have lived in this barren desolation. I kept thinking to myself. The dessert is always a fun place to visit. Bruce did a nice job of showing us the amazing textures of sand dunes and rocks of the dessert.

Oh yes I forgot the images we showed, I was so excited by everyone else's pictures. We showed some aerial shots from Bigfork, the wild mile, the spill way. We also showed some shots of some of our work of the High School and a large home in Iron Horse that we shot. I also included a few shots of us that our friend aaron took, as we biked up Going to the Sun road in May. It was incredible to be able to go on the road without cars.

Thank you to everyone for coming and participating in June's meeting. It was definitely one of the best nights of photography we have seen in a long time.
