GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. At 6:30PM Thursday, July 13th 2006.

Minutes from June

Jim Peterson and Bruce Harris teamed up for a great program.

Jim brought some wonderful pictures that he had submitted to the Lafayette camera club for various competitions as well as showing us how their club operates. It was interesting and informative.

I was also very interested in Bruce’s presentation about Laser printers. There seems to be many reasons to use them. I am interested in learning more about printing with a laser printer. It is a hard subject to go into at a meeting; I might try some sort of a workshop in the future.

Thanks to both of you for sharing with us.

I have mentioned this on several occasions; it is really nice that so many of our members are frequent travelers. Joe Beck did some outstanding photography on his recent trip to South Carolina. The way in which he composed his shots certainly does meet with my approval and I loved the light.

My favorite photographer for this month is my pal Jesse Malone. On his trip to the Bison Range he got some fine wildlife pictures and some really great flowers. Even D loved them and she is among the world’s best flower girls.

Steve and Becca who are always entertaining were also on the road. They visited their children in Kentucky. The land between the lakes looks like a super site to visit. Everyone always gets a big kick out of Steve’s bunnies.

Mike Spence was in the Arches National Park and did some great work there and he also enjoyed a great raft trip.

As far as my own stuff is concerned we are nearing the end of a very long voyage. Many, many years ago I began showing family slides, which started in the mid forties and continued to the present. I have been showing them in the order that I took them. We have just finished the year 2002 and from then until now I really have not done much photography and very little with a 35mm camera. We might be nearing the end.

GREAT PHOTO’S

George and I have been trying vainly to keep the oldest tradition of photography alive and well, the art of the traditional B/W print. We are way out on a limb and need some help. There are at least three other B/W guys in our club. Lets see some show and tell prints.

Newsletter

Our newsletter really does need some help. If you have news or announcements for the newsletter please let me know via email by the end of the month.

SHOW AND TELL

Bruce will bring the slide projector if any of you have real slides to show, otherwise a CD will do.

From Members

From Jesse

Steven and Becca Rapelje hosted a social party for members of the Glacier Camera Club June 17th. They invited us to their home set in the picturesque forest west of Kalispell. Their trees, lawn, flowers and garden are the perfect backdrop for a special get-together. Their home is handcrafted by Steven and nicely appointed by Becca. The main course was barbecued salmon burgers and baked beans. The potluck dishes were delicious; more than we could eat. We visited, laughed and joked all the while there was pleasant background music. After the final watermelon was passed we all retired to the bonfire to continue sharing stories. At last Steven invited us to his cuddly rabbit hutch where we greatly enjoyed the tale of his enterprising adventure. As dusk settled across the valley we said our goodbyes --- only to relive the evening during the twenty minute drive back to Kalispell. We had a wonderful time, thanks Steven and Becca.

Thank you Steve & Becca

Here's another chance to recycle your unwanted electronics. This matters because things like computers, TV's, phones, and printers contain toxic materials. The electronics recycling event is on July 15, at Valley Recycling in Kalispell, 9 am to 4 pm. Typical fees range from $2 for a phone, $6.50 for a monitor, $15 for a TV. For more info call 257-2574.

Camera Club Web Site

We are still asking for more members to contribute to the Club Web site. It is fun and inexpensive. Ask Adele for details.

Buffalo Hills Terrace

I need more volunteers for the Monthly Buffalo Terrace Photo show. Please help; this is the only contact with the outside for many of these people.

The 344 Gallery

We are doing an artist reception for each show listed below. Please watch for the notices and support the artist. Doug Dye is next. William Brooks is the current featured photographer and he has some outstanding pictures on the wall. Stop in when you can and take friends with you. The Gallery is located at 344 Main Street in Kalispell.

The Gallery schedule:

William Brooks June/July
Doug Dye August/September
Shawn Coggins October/November
Dan Taylor December 2006/January 2007
Alex Volborth February 2007/March 2007
