GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting
Glacier Camera Club 8/11/05

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, August 11, 2005. Mike Spence will present a program on matting and mounting prints.

SANDPIPER GALLERY OPENING

The opening went well. Not a huge number of people attended but those who did were enthusiastic and enjoyed themselves immensely. Our photography was excellent and very well displayed. If you were unable to attend the opening take a drive to Polson and have a look. There are some great lunch places to add extra fun to your day.

THE 344 GALLERY OPENING

I don’t have all the details yet but I’m hoping to have a joint opening with the Hockaday in September. If all works as planned we will feature a Marion Lacy retrospective and his son Mike showing many of his current Color prints. Two generations of great photographers in one show. This is a first time these two have shown in the same Gallery and I’m proud to have them.

Marion was more than a photographer to me. He was a fellow sailer, a mountain climbing companion and we shared a passion for Glacier Park. Marion photographed the park from the late forties until mid seventies and no one has done it better.

Mike learned from his father much in the same way as I did. Marion and I never talked about photography and he did not give me any tips. I did, however, listen to him and tried to copy his style of composing pictures. There are as many differences as similarities in our photos but the similarities are unmistakable.

Mike learned from him in pretty much the same fashion. Mike did not get serious about photography until after he had been to college and had a life of his own. When he did begin shooting, however, he remembered many conversations with his father and had many of Marion’s favorite prints for reference. With Mike there are more differences than similarities as he was much quicker than I to find his own point of view.

This father and son duo will be a show all of you will enjoy and I will be sure to keep you posted as it is developed.

NEXT SHOW

As far as I now know Mike Spence will follow Mike Lacy at the 344 Gallery. The details of the Mike S. show will come in due time.
