GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, September 11th. Pady Dusing will do a program for us.

Minutes from August by Adele Scholl

This month I was going to try something a little different. Since I was running the projector last month, I decided to take a copy of the month's images home so that I could write the minutes directly from the photographs and not just the notes. I am attaching my favorite image from each member. We really had a great showing of quality photographs. It was difficult to choose just one per member.

HydroplanesWe started off the August Camera Club meeting looking at some of our photographs. August was a month for boats & llama & alpacas for us. We showed some sailboats from the air, criss crafts and hydroplane boats. It was exciting to hear and feel the boats as they screamed around the course in front of us. They claimed to reach speeds of 130-150 mph. It was definately a fun event to attend via boat. The only downfalls were the time it took in between races. Hopefully next year they will be able to streamline this event. We also heard that it took 2 hours for people to get across town in Polson on Saturday and 2 hours to enter into the gates of the event. I was sure glad we attended via boat. Although we were not as close as the stands, we could come and go as we pleased. We also viewed some images of Rolfing Alpaca's and Llama's. We had always heard Doug stories of his Llama's and been intreged. We were excited to have the opportunity to photograph so many of these animals together. It was very excited to take the feed bucket and direct them where we needed them for the photos. I was amidst the spitting, and snorting longed neck creatures trying to get their heads into the bucket first. Look out for more of the images in the Fall Flathead Living.

Medicine RocksNext we viewed photos from Doug Dye. He brought some spectacular images from medicine rocks. He went in search of finding his relatives initals carved into one of the rocks. Although he did not find the inscription it was definately worth his time. He produced some incredible images from an area not often seen at camera club.

Montana NativeNick followed up Doug's images with some wildlife shots. He told camera club that he waited for 2 hours for this cute guy to get used to him. Looks like he took to Nick because he gave him some nice poses. Nick also showed the club a few shots from the top of Logan pass as sunset. Slowing down the creeks with long shutter speeds making for a dramatic image. The colors in the sky also added to the shots.

Montana Pow WowRex & Ginna started off their show with images from Indian races. They captivated the club with painted horses and clowns. They also showed us some of their incredible macro shots. When Jeff and I used to shoot Nikon's we had a really nice 60 mm macro lense. Once we switched to Canon gear we have not replaced this lense. Rex and Ginna always remind me of how fun macro shots are to look at. Really getting inside the mind's eye of a bug. They also showed us some bird shots, close up and personal with Loons, Eagle's and ducks. It is always a pleasure when they show images to camera club.

Montana WildlifeSteven Mitchell showed the club some up close and personal images, as well. He also showed some incredible macro flower shots. He followed up his show with some nice shots from the Hydroplanes, fireworks, Clysedales and some wildlife photos. His photo of two bucks trying to be friendly with each other could be a big seller at a stock agency. I also enjoyed his fourth of July shots of the fireworks from the top of the Big Mountain looking down on Whitefish Lake. Definately a unique perspective.

Black and White FogRosella finished up the show with some of her stunning black and whites. Although the projector wanted to change the crop of her images, they were still very powerful. She started off with fog over a creek in a meadow, following up with some nice shots of birch trees, daisies in Polebridge, slow water moving through what looks like McDonald Creek.

Thank you everyone for sharing your images. It was fun to revisit them for this newsletter.
