GLACIER CAMERA CLUB

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Pin & Cue Bowling Alley in Whitefish, MT. at 6:30PM Thursday, September 10th.

Minutes from August by Adele Scholl

Jeff and I were happy to be able to attend last month's camera club. The summer comes and things start to fly by. August's meeting was a lot of fun. We started the show with pictures from Bob Howard. He traveled to Mann Gulch, in the Helena National Forest, where 13 smoke jumpers were killed in the line of duty. Reaching Mann Gulch today is nearly as difficult as it was in 1949. There are still no roads in the area and one must still boat, hike or ride horseback to reach the site. He created a nice tribute to the men, showing us the crosses and markers that were placed at the scene in their rememberence. He also showed the club images from the gulch and the ferry path. The canyon and mountains that surround it are incredible. My favorite picture, seen to the right, is an elevated prespective looking back at the water.

Bruce follow up the show with some really nice pictures of the model airfield, the jet fly. These machines cost thousands to run and keep up. Bruce told the club that he had seen a few crashes while there. He also showed the club some great shots of the mountain reflections from Ed's windows, as well as some of Nancy's pretty flowers with the reflection. My favorite shot is of Bruce's is the one seen to the right, momma Merganzer with at least 7 babies in tow.

Bruce Harris continued the show, with images from California. He photographed the beach, light houses, waterfalls and much more. His pictures made me want to take a ttrip to visit the coastline. He had some outstanding shots, my favorite is this image of the California coast line with a large waterfall.

Gary followed up the show with the best pictures of the night, in my opinion. He had mountain goats, grazing in wild flowers at the top of Logan pass, with a buck mixed into the shot. He also showed some shots from sailboat racing. Looks like a lot of fun, his pictures showed just how close these boats get. He also showed a few shots from Two Medicine, one of my favorite areas in the park. Also my favorite picture from the evening, a mirrored reflection from Two Medicine Lake. I have never been there when it is not windy. I also enjoyed his shot of the goats and the buck, so I am including two shots for Gary.

Jeff and I closed the show with some pictures from all over, we had shots from our favorite river, the Middle Fork of the Flathead, to our favorite lake, Flathead. We also had a springtime shot of Lake McDonald that showed the brown color of the creek coming into the lake. This shot to the right is one that I took from an overnight on the Middle Fork, on the trail to Lone Man lookout. What a view of the river it gave us.
